Map of the Transcaledonia.

Transcaledonia (Commonspeak: Transkældona), formerly known as the the Transcaledonian Territory, is a region in Aerla. It is composed of the lands conquered during the Vizia Campaign, lands ceded by the Khamil Khanate, and the former exclave of Port Aerla. The area is sparsely populated, with it being mostly inhabited by the native tribes of the region along with several small Aerlan settlements. The capital of the territory is the aforementioned Port Aerla.

Administration

The territory is subdivided into 11 Parishes, 2 Tribal Trust Administrations (or TTAs), and 1 jointly-administered condominium (Kaledonija . The Tribal Trust Administrations are distinct by being governed by the local tribes rather than a standard Parish government. The two TTAs are the Pastoral Peoples Tribal Trust Administration (PPTTA), which comprises most of the heartland of the former Ghul Confederation and the Rukh Tribal Trust Administration (RTTA), which was given to the Rukh Tribe due to their alliance with Aerla during the Vizia Campaign. The city of Kaledonija is administered as a condominium between Aerla and Bassaridia Vaeringheim.

History

The Aerlan government announced, staring in 1738 AN, that low-interest loans would be granted for construction projects in Transcaledonia. This was done in the hope to attract industry to the area. The government also announced the selling of discounted tracts of land in certain parishes in order to encourage agriculture.

The large territory went without representation on the national for over 20 years. This was largely due to the lack of infrastructure funding given to the region, in line with the general policies of President Michel Sabbagh, as well as the cancellation of the loan program in 1745 AN. However, with the election of Thomas Guthrie as President in 1750 AN, fortunes changed for the territory. He would order the occupation and subsequent annexation of the former Norse city of Jelsinga, as well as the former Cerulean cities of Mikhalikha and Čečňa (later renamed to Kalina). In addition, the city of Kaledonija became a jointly-administered condominium between Aerla and Bassaridia Vaeringheim the same year. Guthrie would also commission the construction of the Noursala-Jelsinga Railroad in 1756 AN, which seeks to connect the two cities via a routing through Azula, Oldenburg, and Coronam. A rail link between Jelsinga and Port Aerla was also completed in 1758 AN.

The territory would finally be integrated into Metropolitan Aerla via the Transcaledonia Integration Act, 1758. After the bill was passed, the National Assembly is set to grow by eleven seats for the 1760 election, as the Territory's eleven parishes will be incorporated. The exceptions for this rule are the Tribal Trust Administrations and Kaledonija, reflecting their special legal statuses.
