Tokamak Ziggurat 1, a production township and closed-city established on 11.XIV.1685 by the Supply & Production Bureau of Benacia Command at the commencement of Special Project 1685-1821. The settlement is located at the geographic centre of the Bailiwick of Angularis and sits within a forty kilometre special exclusion zone controlled by the Internal Security Bureau (Benacia Command). The foundation was made with a contribution of 40,000 persons deducted from the local populace to provide a labour force, supplemented by 1,200 employees of the Honourable Company, 40 academics recruited from the People's Academy of Elwynn, and 120 specialist academicians specifically chosen and summoned from Lapivril[1].

A 100km air exclusion zone was established around the settlement from the date of its foundation and commercial ground-imaging satellites passing over the region have experienced consistent and targeted electromagnetic interference since that date.

In the second month of 1703 AN the site was the subject of an unspecified radiological incident. A no-fly zone was declared over the entirety of the Transelwynn Governorate and the Benacian Data Network suspended non-essential functions for a fortnight. A nationwide public appeal by the UGB civil executive for donations of blood plasma and iodine appeared briefly before being scrubbed from the network by the hunter-seeker algorithms of the Panopticon, now under the control of the Guild of Magisters-Carnifex.

Disruptions to the Benacian Power Network, which had been reported as far afield as Alalehzamin, where additional strain had been placed on its hydroelectric facilities during the incident, had largely dissipated by the end of the month.

Eventually a terse bulletin was issued via official channels detailing how a number of engineers of Kalgachi origin had been disciplined for negligence, and in one instance executed for treasonable anti-Humanist conduct. Their families had been transferred to the Benacian Labour Reserve as a warning to their co-workers.

Since 1723 AN the site has been publicly acknowledged as a technical support facility for both the Benacian Atomic Research Community and the Unified Power System of Benacia. A veil of discretion is still laid over the particular activities carried on within the production township, save that they continue to serve commonweal of the Union-State.

Notes

  1. ^ The closed city's resident cadre of academicians would subsequently fall under the purview of the Benacian Academy.
