The Sovereign League for Defense and Deterrence (SLDD), is the state guard of the Sovereign Confederation, a paramilitary territorial defence force raised as an aid to the civil power which also serves as a wartime reserve for the Benacian Union Defence Force.
Remit
The Sovereign League for Defense and Deterrence normally serves as an auxiliary force for the realm, activated on the occasion of need, for the purpose of territorial defence. It can also serve as a mobilisation manpower reserve for the Benacian Union Defence Force, and may be called out for partisan warfare operations. During counter-insurgency missions the mobilised State Guard will normally be called upon to establish a cordon around a district or bailiwick in which more specialised agencies would then be free to operate as required.
History
In 1731 AN, with relations between the Benacian Union and Shireroth at a crisis point, the decision was made by the Congress of Chryse to mobilise the militias of the realms in support of the Benacian Union Defence Force. To the Sovereign Confederation was set the task of raising 0.2% of its 1731 AN population as a contribution to the defence of the Union-State. These persons, by whatever means they were called into service, were to be assigned to the Sovereign League for Defense and Deterrence.
As such, the civil executive of Sovereign Confederation would be asked to find 64,222 men between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five to rally to the colours. If successful in this task, the Sovereign Confederation would be able to assemble sufficient manpower for fifty-three regiments in four divisions.
