The Southern Peoples' United Autonomous Government (Sangunese: 南人聯盟自治政府 Nanjin Renmei Jichi Seifu), also known as the SPUAG, was a puppet regime supported by the Empire of Greater Sangun. Established on 10.VIII1719 AN in expectation of the imminent collapse of the Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union, the government claimed to represent various former Bassarid territories in northern Corum.
Name
The word Nanjin (南人) has a dual meaning within Sangun. In its literal translation of "southern people", it is a historical term for the Bassarids of New Zimia and neighbouring lands in northern Corum. It is also the Sangunese name for the city of Southman/Sóuzhamäl, which was originally intended to serve as the SPUAG's capital.
History
The Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union entered a period of slow decline during the second decade of the eighteenth century AN. This decline accelerated dramatically in 1717 AN, as the weakening empire withdraw from its territories in Eura and Keltia, prompting the eruption of a series of destructive conflicts as neighbouring states sought to stabilise the degenerating situation.
By 1719 AN, it was apparent that the final collapse of the Bassarid Empire was imminent. Unwilling to see the adjoining Bassarid heartlands in northern Corum fall under the sway of elements hostile to the Raspur Pact, the regency council of the Empire of Greater Sangun began cultivating support within New Zimia's Region of the East and the neighbouring Protectorate of the Wallis Islands. Particularism was strong in both regions; the Wallis Islands had briefly enjoyed independence prior to their annexation by Passio-Corum, while the people of Southman had unsuccessfully sought autonomy within New Zimia.
On 10.VIII.1719 AN, representatives of various pro-Sangunese parties met in the Sangunese capital, Yasutomi, and agreed to form a "regime in waiting", the Southern People's United Autonomous Government.
Government and politics
Little information was made public about the SPUAG's political structure. The government was led by a chief executive, who presided over a governing council, modelled upon the Bassarid Council of Courts and comprising representatives of the two regions and various aligned military forces. Although the identity of the chief executive was never publicly revealed, ostensibly for security reasons, he has since been identified as Erlo Wallis, the incumbent Supreme Arbiter of East Zimia and the Wallis Islands.
Regions
The SPUAG currently claimed two former Bassarid regions, East Zimia (the former New Zimian Region of the East), and the Protectorate of the Wallis Islands. The latter includes the Erlo Sinders Regional Forest protected area.

Military
The SPUAG asserted ownership of all personnel and assets formerly belonging to the Wallis Island Division of the New Zimian War League; in view of the confused and chaotic situation following the fall of the Bassarid system, it is unclear how much of this materiel survives. The regime also enjoyed support among the Army of the Imab, a militia force formed from the warbands of the Imab-Adred-Nas people of Northern Corum.
