Established as a part of the University of Sansabury, and situated in the same eponymous city, the Sansabury Institute for Epigenetic Research was founded on 33.XV.1696 AN following a 500 million mark grant by the governments of Elwynn and the Unified Governorates. The purpose of the institute being to study whether heritable changes in gene expression can be detected in the population of Benacia, particularly in light of the environmental and humanitarian consequences of the Kalirion Fracture, the Inner Benacian Conflict, and the Second Elwynnese Civil War. If the wars of the preceding twenty-five years can be shown to have resulted in phenotype changes through external environmental conditioning, affecting how the DNA sequences of an organism are "read", the institute is to undertake direct experimentation so as to identify the optimum environmental conditions and life circumstances to produce the "New Humanist Citizen", a human capable of undertaking the work of rebuilding Benacia in the image of Humanist ideology.
