Carl Magnus Bernadotte
Carl Magnus Bernadotte (died 1555) was a Nidarosian Nazarene cleric and landowner, and Pope, as Pope Camillus II of the Holy Nidarosian Church. Grand Duke of Riskai 1539-1555. Famous for breaking communion with the Church of Stormark in 1538 AN, thus ensuring the Holy Nidarosian Church's freedom from Vanic influences.
Theologically regarded a hardliner and religious conservative, Pope Camillus II is remembered by the people of Nidaros and Riskai as an excentric individual who stood up against the dominating Vanic tendencies in Stormark and Nidaros. In the 1540s, in an effort to help repair relations with the Church of Stormark, he allowed to recognise ordinations from the Church of Stormark. A consequence of this was allowing priests to marry. In 1543, he negotiated a political marriage with Queen Astrid of Nidaros, and the subsequent year, married her.
He died in 1555, most likely murdered on the order of his wife.
The town of Carlstad, the capital of Varmland, is named for him.
