The system of orders, decorations, and medals of Nouvelle Alexandrie is used to reward personal achievement, bravery, merit, or service to Nouvelle Alexandrie and its people. The system was created through Royal Decree and Act of the Cortes Federales, specified in the Federal Orders, Honors, and Medals Act, 1694. All announcements of honors granted are published in The Federal Gazette. These are usually restricted to citizens of the Federation, but under many notable exceptions, foreigners have been granted special honors throughout Nouvelle Alexandrie's history.

The system of honors in Nouvelle Alexandrie consists of three main tiers:

  • honors: dedicated to merit in terms of service or personal achievement;
  • medals: which are used to recognize long or valuable service, or good conduct, or service during a particular military operation or theatre, or specific major national event or natural disaster;
  • decorations: which are used to recognize specific deeds.

Overview

History

Orders of knighthood

The system of orders of knighthood of Nouvelle Alexandrie is made up of six orders of knighthood in total, some established by Royal Decree prior to the creation of the Federation and others established by the Cortes Federales through the Federal Orders, Honors, and Medals Act, 1694. Three of these orders are orders of chivalry and two are orders of merit.

Private

Order of Manco Capac

The Royal Order of Manco Capac is a special order of chivalry bestowed on members of the House of Inti-Carrillo, the House of Carrillo, and the House of Waffel-Paine. Order members are also known as Tayta Masi, or Knight Companions, mirroring the the Order of the Golden Sun. The members of the Order from the listed families wear the medal of the Order on formal occasions in Nouvelle Alexandrie or at a New Alexandrian embassy.

Public

Order of the Golden Sun

The Most Noble Order of the Golden Sun, Inti is the highest civil and military order of chivalry in Nouvelle Alexandrie. Inherited from the formerly independent Wechua Nation, it was originally founded by King Titu Cusi of the Wechua Nation in 1659 AN. It is the most important and oldest order of knighthood in Nouvelle Alexandrie. The Order is dedicated to the image and arms of Inti, but once it was made part of Nouvelle Alexandrie, it has kept a more secular approach around Inti. This has caused great controversy among many of Inti's faithful, which continues to this day.

Appointments to the Order of the Golden Sun are at the sole discretion of the King, usually in recognition of a meaningful national contribution, outstanding public service, or personal service to the King. Membership is limited by Royal Decree; currently limited to the King, the Prince of Rimarima, the Princess of Rimarima, and no more than 40 living members. Members of the Order of the Golden Sun are known as Tayta Masi, or Knight Companion. There are different classes and special offices for members of the House of Inti-Carrillo, the House of Carrillo, and the House of Waffel-Paine.

Order of the Federation

The Grand Order of the Federation of Nouvelle Alexandrie is the highest order of merit in Nouvelle Alexandrie, both military and civil. It was created by the Cortes Federales in 1695 AN through the Federal Orders, Honors, and Medals Act, 1694. The Order of the Federation was modeled after the Aldurian Legion of Honor [1]. The New Alexandrian monarch serves as the Grand Master of the Order, with the operations of the Order being entrusted to the Grand Chancery of the Order of the Federation. Oversight of the Order's finances is entrusted to the Cortes Federales, through an Inspector-General appointed by the Speaker of the Federal Assembly at the start of every term.

Appointments of the Order of the Federation are at the discretion of the King, on the advice and consent of the Council of State for both civil and military appointments, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Council for military appointments (on a limited advisory capacity). The Order of the Federation, on special occasions, has been awarded to citizens and foreigners alike.

The Order is divided into two divisions: civil and military. Each division has five classes, the senior two classes include a small monetary grant from the Treasury of Nouvelle Alexandrie, currently set at a single-time grant of NAX€65,500 at appointment. The Grand Chancery is known for funding and operating the Grand Lodge of the Order of the Federation and the Federation Museum.

The Order's funding comes from an original endowment created by contributions from the King, private citizens, and several organizations and businesses. The endowment is estimated to be worth NAX€10 billion.

Federal Order of Merit

The Federal Order of Merit is the second highest order of merit in Nouvelle Alexandrie. It consists of five grades, each divided into civil and military. It is aimed at recognizing distinguished service in charity, the armed forces, sciences, arts, literature, or the promotion and preservation of the culture of Nouvelle Alexandrie, and public service outside the civil service. It was created by the Cortes Federales in 1695 AN through the Federal Orders, Honors, and Medals Act, 1694. The New Alexandrian monarch serves as the Grand Master of the Order, with the operations of the Order being entrusted to the Chancery of the Federal Order of Merit. Oversight of the Order's finances is entrusted to the Cortes Federales, through an Inspector-General appointed by the Speaker of the Federal Assembly at the start of every term.

Appointments of the Order of Merit are at the discretion of the King, on the sole recommendation of the Federal Assembly. Appointments to the Order of Merit may happen at any point during the term of a Federal Assembly session via resolution, with the support of a majority of the Assembly.

Order of Saint Catherine

The Order of Santa Catalina is a civil and military order of chivalry that consists of five grades and is awarded to citizens of the Federation that have rendered outstanding service in the interest of national security, public safety, public order, and the preservation of national sovereignty and independence. Its membership is limited to no more than 24 members, not including the King, which serves as the Grand Eagle of the Order. Appointments to the Order of Saint Catherine are at the sole discretion of the King.

Dormant or closed

Order of the Restoration

The Order of the Restoration is a closed order of chivalry that was bestowed by King Manco Cápac upon his return to Parap and the restoration of the Wechua Nation in Keltia between 1673 AN and 1675 AN. Its members are known as Heralds. They are persons and organizations that assisted the King Manco Capac I and aided the Wechua Restoration. The Order was granted once (and closed in 1675 AN by decree) to 30 individuals and 12 organizations, in three classes, with civil and military divisions. The honor is considered very prestigious because of its rarity. Membership in the Order came with a one-time grant from the Wechua treasury of one million Sols.
