Northern Bretland
The District of Northern Bretland is a former district of Hurmu located in the northern parts of the Madison Isles (aka Bretland, Brettish Isles, Britannic Isles, etc.). It consisted of the northern part of mainland Bretland, constituting the former shire of Norfolk, as well as the island of Sussax. The district's population is 3,780 inhabitants.
The district became an official district within 1699 AN after the Hurmu Peace Corps had occupied the former Nova English territories of the Brettish Isles in 1698. A year later, the territories were annexed to Hurmu.
The District of Northern Bretland housed two municipalities, each hosting a base of the Hurmu Peace Corps:
- Sussax, including the base King Jeremy Point, with a population of 40 persons.
- Norfolk, including the base of Saint Churchill, with a population of 3740 persons.
Owing to the low population and the remote location of the district, Northern Bretland was administered by an appointed officer reporting to the Minister with responsibility for the District of the Warring Islands.
The evacuation of HPC personnel from Norfolk and Sussax began on 12.VI.1702 AN following the signing of a treaty with Batavia. In 1702, Hurmu ceded the entirety of the district to Batavia.
