Justin Watson, spelled in Yewlang as Hua Zhiqiang (Yewlang: 华志强; hanji: Hua Zhiqiang; 13 July 1987), is a Dauian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper and is the current manager of the Daau national football team.
Playing career
Watson was born to Alexander Watson and Jessica Sharm, who both were of Victorian descent and thus allowed Justin to take on Victorian citizenship. Justin would attend the Farman International School from K-1 to K-12 where he played for the Daas FC's youth setup after school and won himself an amateur contract in the summer of 2007 when he was a student at Farman University. The young Watson would pen his month-to-month contract to serve as the deputy to Krayvan Mohatthagar. Following 2 seasons with The Club, Watson joined fellow Lower League side GDT Lebar Circuit for 4 seasons where he became the first choice goalkeeper due to the departure of Washeed Al-Rammar and an injury crisis in the goalkeeping department. His outstanding performances in the Lower League caught the eyes of Matabese dynamos Sultan FC, where Watson was offered to play for the remainder of his career. On 17th July 2013, Justin was announced as the first foreign non-Matabese keeper in the league as he signed a 5-year deal with the Royals. However just after 10 appearances and the Matabese Uprising in 2014, Watson's contract was waived by the club and both sides agreed to mutually part ways for an undisclosed sum. Watson would return to Daau in the summer of 2014, signing with the up and coming Jurong West FC. Watson announced his retirement from professional football just aged 31, citing family concerns.
Managerial career
Daau United
Seragaan FC
Due to the sudden departure of Josip Ruiz as head coach in mid November, Watson was hired as the club's head coach for the remainder of the season with a specific clause that allowed him to be released from the coaching setup if DAFA or a foreign team approached him with an offer that satisfied him. Watson led the club out of the drop zone by December heading into the transfer window and saw heavy use of forward Irfan Jaya, breathing life into the stagnant Seragaan frontline.
Watson saw his contract waived following an approach from DAFA.
Daau
Following Jason Villemuer's departure as head coach of the Daau football team, Watson was named as interim head coach for the remaining FMF windows in the first quarter of 2026.
