Ian Holden (b. 1671 AN) is an Aerlan statesman and civil servant and diplomat who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1720 AN to 1734 AN under President Basil Fitzroy. He also served as Assistant to the President on Foreign Policy under Henry Cassian from 1710 AN to 1720 AN.
He helped broker treaties between several nations and Aerla, such as Constancia, Hurmu, Nouvelle Alexandrie, and Zeed.
In 1734 AN he would be elected as Secretary-General of the Micras Treaty Organization, thereafter resigning his post as Minister of Foreign Affairs. His tenure as Secretary-General is widely regarded as a disappointment, as the MTO Headquarters continued to fall into disrepair and his promises to reform the organization went unrealized. The only major event of his tenure was the election of Horie Zenko and Qerelzhan Shagul as Justices to the MTO Court, a widely inactive organization which hadn't received any case filings since 1731 AN, five years prior. The MTO General Assembly rarely met under his leadership, and when it did, delegates were forced to gather in several different conference and event venues throughout Huyenkula.
Holden retired from his position on 15.III.1753 AN, at the age of 82, being replaced by Túpac Mendoza from Nouvelle Alexandrie. Holden repeatedly denied that his failures were the reason for his retirement, instead claiming that he wished to spend more time with his family. He declined offers from the Guthrie administration to continue his service in the Foreign Ministry. He has remained out of the public light during his retirement, refusing interviews from the press and media.
Legacy
The headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was renamed to the Ian H. Holden Building in 1737 AN.
His son, Liam, currently serves as a Foreign Affairs Officer in the Office of Apollonian Affairs. His granddaughter, Henrietta, currently attends the Foreign Services Academy at the University of Noursala.
