The Holy Order of the Armored Goats is the defense force used by the Pentheral State of Athlon. It operates under the direct command of the Pentheros of the Dozan Bovic Church. Practically, however, it is limited to ceremonial and coastal patrol duties most of the time. It was originally founded prior to 1530 as the personal guard of Nathan Waffel-Paine, who used the private army to invade Lovelian Psycotia now the islands of Athlon during the War of Matbaic Liberation, without requiring Natopian oversight. The Naval Phalanx of the Holy Order also served with distinction during the Euran War, where Neoptolemus endured martyrdom whilst engaged against the Jing fleet, and contributed to the defense of Naya Island during the War of Lost Brothers.

Pentheral Militia

The Pentheral Militia is the primary armed land force of the State. As an armed force, it operates mainly within Athlon. Outside of Athlon its members provide security for Church leaders. Elements of the Guard are assigned to the Naval Phalanx as marines during expeditionary missions.

Naval Phalanx

The Naval Phalanx consists of several surplus vessels and aircraft purchased from Natopia. It provides coastal defense and support, but can operate as a blue-water navy when sufficiently mobilized.

Uniforms and Equipment

The uniforms for the Order are based on the ceremonial armor worn by the personal guards of Nathan Waffel-Paine, who were bare-chested. However, the modern Order has incorporated practical elements of body armor for members of the Order engaged in combat. Enlisted personnel in both the Naval Phalanx and Pentheral Militia are "called by Bous" to serve during times of need and wear leather pteruges, boots, and a leather helmet. They are only trained in basic combat and perform menial labor and can be assigned to either ground or naval forces as needed. Junior officers are given a steel helmet and a leather cuirass. Senior officers are distinguished by steel cuirass. Command officers wear a blue cape and orange-dyed cowhair mane, the national colors of Athlon. Officers of the Pentheral Militia wear polished gold to resemble butter and intimidate their enemies.
