The Occupation of the Arm of Alu-Nergal by the Hurmu Fyrð began in mid 1757 following the collapse of Hexarchican government there in 1756. After the re-establishment of the Hexarchy a year later, the new government failed to secure the Arm of Alu-Nergal, a largely mountainous and somewhat inaccessible area. The Hurmu Fyrð began an occupation there with a view to annex the northern part of the territory to Normandie and the southern part of the territory to Amaland. Lobbying from the Draconic Humanist Faction, led by Senator Nobunag'an Ral, brought the Secretariat of State to consider establishing a small realm around Naith for the Hexarchican population, to be called Anzu-Nergal with Anarion as its overlord.

Preparation

The build-up of Hurmudan forces along the frontiers shared with the Hexarchy began under Operation Östra Korståget which commenced on II.1756 AN.

The 5th Guards Brigade of the Hurmu Fyrð, supported by volunteers from the Normandokarum Fyrð, was tasked with undertaking the occupation. Roulf de Bayeux, Duke of Normandy, recruited Yukor and Už mercenaries, Nazarene nomads from the green borders who presumably lived north of Apollonia and Keltia. In addition, the nomads were granted land ownership and citizenship rights in the newly conquered territories of Normandie. Intensive patrols were conducted by mercenaries along the borders of Eastern and Southern Normandie to counter any potential incursions by Confederacy of the Dispossessed bandits. The lawless and poorly managed nature of the region facilitated the bandits' entry. Expansion of Normandie to the northern Hexarchian border was not expected.

Definition of the Occupied Zone

The occupation encompasses, among others, the following cities/towns (from north to south):

  • Luna's Vale
  • Amon Dae
  • Lillebonne, a city with Norman history and presence.
  • Naith, a heavily fortified city.
  • Alu-Nergal
