The Andilar Wars were a series of conflict in the territories of Andilar, the Vraillan isles and Krufnspire Island. During the Calbain Imperial era, these lands were colonised by Calbion, but hardly controlled. Especially in the mainland of Andilar, the influence of the indigenous peoples remained strong and the Calbain control was limited to the coastal areas and the city of Andilar itself on the isle of Angár.
Following the Calbain Troubles, the assassination of Prince Deiniol, the Calbain military and political leadership required an increasing focus on the Calbain mainland, resulting the gradual withdrawal of Calbain troops from it's colonies. This power vaccuum was exploited by Andilari, especially the armies loyal to the King of Beorg-Dur. From 1734 onward, the various anti-Calbain armies slowly captured larger cities within Andilar, notably Kándar and C'hagar. Witnessing these threats in their immediate region, Celebarad joined the conflict. The Celebaradi retained a good relationship with the Calbain, although the murder of Prince Deiniol had deminished this somewhat. Nevertheless, Calbain presence was seen as positive, as they kept the - often hostile and viscious - Andilari forces from posing a threat to Celebaradi lands. Celebaradi ships sailed up North, and quickly took control of the Vraillan islands and the sparesely populated Krufnspire Island. From Porth Auren in the Vraillan islands, the Celebaradi organised a force that would be able to aid the Calbain if need be.
In 1737, the forces of the King of Beorg-Dur razed and destroyed the the City of Andilar. The Calbain officially surrendered and gave up their claim over Andilar.
Then, Celebarad announced their firm intent to destroy the forces of the Black Mountain, and launched an attack towards Toshmeen in the North from the Vraillan islands, and towards Angár from the ports of Birlas and Sant Paula.
History and Background
Andilar was colonised by Calbion in the late 17th century, in its quest for domination over the Great Western sea, where it was locked in a power struggle against Raspurid naval forces. The coastal cities of the Empire proved crucial hub for the many trading routes crossing the Ocean from the Cibolan colonies. Nevertheless, the Calbain never managed to excert control over the Empire aside from these cities, having established trading posts on Andilar island and its capital, as well as Erynnor and Fort Intrepid. Though following colonisation, the Calbain declared that the title of Emperor was now bestowed on the Prince of the Calbain, much of the indigenious population did follow this. Instead, they believed that the true Emperor of Andilar wat the Emperor of the Black Mountain, a mysterious figure said to reside on the mountain of Beorg-Dur (lit. Black Mountain).
Development of the Conflict
Rise of the Black Host
The King of Beorg-Dur was able to unite several of the scattered kingdoms to form a strong army that would be able to defeat the Calbain forces. In 1734, the laid seige to the city of Kándar, which was home to the Nynchara kingdom which had, together with the Uantiri, allied with the Calbain. After a short period, the city gates opened for the Black Host. As it turned out, King Georg of the Nyncharans had been murdered in his sleep by his eldest son, Prince Ram. Prince Ram joined the forces of Beorg-Dur, and together they marched to the city of C'hagar. Lord Kos of the Palesh decided to also join the Black Host, as his power and kingdom were dwindling and his army was too weak to withstand the forces of Beorg-Dur. By 1736, a large part of the inlands of Andilar were under the control of the Black hosts, and that year, a large amount of ships were built in order to attack the Calbain on the isle of Angár.
Fall of Andilar
In 1737, the forces of the King of Beorg-Dur launced a swift and massive surprise attack on the island of Angár, where they in only three days completely destroyed the Calbain forces in the City of Andilar. They displayed incredible cruelty towards not only the Calbain soldiers, but also towwards civilians and ethnic Andilari who were living in the trading port. Almost the entire city was burned to the ground and the Calbain forces officially surrendered and gave up their claim over Andilar. Nevertheless, Calbain troops, together with the Uantiri and other loyalists were holding out in the Castle Uantir and Lotan's Island, as well as in the South in Erynnor and Gilgal.
Rowan ab Reese, governor of the Andilar colonies, was brutally murdered by soldiers of the Black Host. His mutilated body was hung from a large wooden pole that was erected in the courtyard of the former governor's mansion. Lord Lucien, the right hand of the King of Beorg-Dur and the commander of the invading forces, took up residence in the mansion.
Celebarad comes to Aid
Feeling that the Northern shores controlled by the Black Host would pose a great threat to the Celebaradi lands, King Eathel assembled a large invasion force. As a first movement, Celebaradi ships sailed up North, and quickly took control of the Vraillan islands and the sparesely populated Krufnspire Island. From Porth Auren in the Vraillan islands, these ships landed on the North of the Andilarian territories, where they joined forces with Uantiri and some Calbain loyalists to organise an attack on the Black forces.
From the South, Celebaradi ships landed in Erynnor and Gilgal, where the Calbain still had some control albeit no longer officially supported by the surrendered colonial army of Calbion.
