Aloys Serratus, Viscount of Mesior, born in Maurs, now Schiste Ward, in the Honour of Palatini, Kezan, in 1626 AN, is a Kezanese Shirerithian patrician and statesman. Since 1684, Minister of the Exterior. In 1688, raised to the peerage as Viscount of Mesior and took his seat in the Landsraad.

Family

The House of Serratus traces its ancestry back to Saratos of Litoras, fl. 1191 AN, a minor notable. Aloys's father, George Serratus, had been involved in the Antican Diaspora Society's efforts to safely relocate Antican Nationals out of the Antican homeland following the end of the Second Republic. At the time of the Catastrophe of 1596, George Serratus had been in the Antican colony of Myrtilis, Natopia, serving on the ADS Myrtilis Organizing Committee. Following that event, the newly-elevated Lord Serratus joined the delegation that visited Kaiser Aiomide in Shirekeep to advocate for the creation of a new Antican homeland under Shirerithian dominion, Kezan. George was unsuccessful in campaigning for a position on the Initial Land Survey of 1606 AN, but did co-chair the Parini Resettlement Panel from 1607 to 1624 AN, allowing him to redirect his house's financial portfolio into Kezanese real estate and industry. It was during his time on the Parini Resettlement Panel that he met and married Chloe Tassia. In 1626 AN, their first child, Aloys, was born.

In 1656 AN, with the death of his father, Aloys inherited lordship of the House of Serratus. In the years before the Kalirion Fracture, Aloys's relationship with his wife and daughter had strained, visiting their home in Kezan only infrequently. He has not visited Kezan since 1675 AN, when he refused to approve of his daughter's impending marriage, and vowed not to speak to her once the wedding took place. He and his wife call eachother on a weekly-to-monthly basis.

Aloys's one child and heir, Argyri Serratina Petroc, is a school teacher in Mimsy.

In late 1684 AN, Aloys Serratus divorced his wife, filed to disinherit his daughter, and adopted the children of Lady Iddo Neriui, whom he described as "of his blood".

Career

Aloys Serratus entered the Kezan Militia in 1644 AN, immediately upon earning his Matura, staying on an extra deployment as a commissioned officer before joining the civil service. In 1648 AN, he secured a position as a junior assessor for the Honour Court of Parini's Department of Leases. Shortly after gaining this appointment, he joined the Blues, a moderately-conservative Kezanese political advocacy group. By 1659 AN, Aloys Serratus had become a prosecutor for the Honour Court of Parini's Department of Appeals.

During the 1660 Adelsraad election, Serratus successfully campaigned for the top of the Blue List on the Kezanese Joint List, virtually guaranteeing a seat. His time in the Adelsraad was spent co-chairing the Kezanese Joint List with Iddo Neriui of the Workers' List. Both described their working relationship as cordial and productive. At the reconvening of the Adelsraad in 1665 AN, Lord Serratus purchased a newly-constructed townhouse in Shirekeep's Second Quarter, to provide more spacious and dedicated apartments for the members of the Kezanese Joint List and their staff.

On 23.I.1670 AN, Aloys Lord Serratus was named Commissioner for International Trade as part of the second government of Steward Soraya of Octavius-Parini, and has continued to serve in this capacity during the tenure of Chrysostom Wythe. On 24.XIV.1684 AN, a cabinet shuffle cleared the way for his elevation to Minister of the Exterior.
