The 10th Federal Congress of Oportia is the current meeting of the legislative branch of the government of the State of Oportia, composed of the Chamber of Deputies of Oportia and the Senate of Oportia. It convened in Vanie, Oportia following the 1742 general election, which resulted in a narrow victory for Marcel Vermeuil of the Liberal Progressive Party of Oportia (LPP) with 51% of the vote in the run-off against Sofia Laurent of the Liberty Now! Movement (LNM).

The 10th Congress operates under Vermeuil's "Government of National Unity" approach, with the LPP maintaining reduced majorities in both chambers (173 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 29 seats in the Senate). This session is notable for the formal split in the Federal Conservative Union, with the FCU Unity Faction led by Lawrence Marchelier supporting the government while the main FCU faction under Felipe Perez y Garza remains in opposition. Key legislation has focused on governance reforms in response to the Oportia–Nouvelle Alexandrie integration scandal, environmental policy, and economic reforms balancing progressive taxation with market mechanisms.

Election

The 10th Federal Congress of Oportia was elected in the Oportian general election, 1742, which took place earlier than originally scheduled due to the resignation of Federal Representative Francisco Valverde amid the Oportia–Nouvelle Alexandrie integration scandal. The election was moved from VII.1742 AN to V.1742 AN after the Federal Electorate of Oportia gathered over 5 million signatures demanding an early vote.

The election resulted in significant changes to the political landscape. In the first round (5-7.V.1742 AN), Marcel Vermeuil of the LPP secured 44.00% of the vote, followed by Sofia Laurent of the LNM with 39.15%. The second round on 21.V.1742 AN saw Vermeuil narrowly defeat Laurent with 51.00% to 49.00%, a much closer margin than the previous election.

The LPP maintained control of both houses of Congress but with reduced majorities. In the Chamber of Deputies, they won 173 seats (45.25% of votes), down from 192 in the previous Congress. In the Senate, they secured 29 seats (45.25% of votes), down from 36. The LNM made significant gains, winning 147 seats in the Chamber (40.10% of votes) and 24 in the Senate (40.10% of votes).

The political dynamics of the 10th Congress were further complicated by the split in the FCU following the election. Former FCU chairman Lawrence Marchelier broke from the party leadership to support Vermeuil's "Government of National Unity" initiative, bringing seven FCU deputies and two senators with him to form the FCU Unity Faction. This realignment provided crucial additional support for Vermeuil's legislative agenda beyond what the election results alone would suggest.

The election set a record for voter participation in Oportian history, with 96.83% turnout in the first round and 97.11% in the second round, reflecting the heightened political engagement following the integration scandal. This unprecedented level of civic participation underscored the sense of national crisis and the public's demand for reforms in governance and diplomatic oversight.
