Established in 1724 AN, the Machine Tool Purchasing Group was a subordinate entity of the Chamber of Industry established to obtain, by whatever means, the machine-tools, and the means of manufacturing machine-tools, that the Benacian Union would require during its rapid rearmament programme of the period 1723 AN – 1730 AN. The group would consist of three purchasing teams:
- Mission Team in the Community of Goldfield;
- Mission Team in Sathrati and Shireroth;
- Mission Team in Sanama.
It would be the latter two missions which would have to manifest the greatest ingenuity when it came to working in environments sometimes clouded by popular and official concern and hostility.
Subordinated to the General Plenipotentiary for Armament Tasks after mid 1731 AN, a reorientation of focus would see the mission team in Shireroth would be withdrawn, as had been inevitable since the deterioration in relations between the Union-State and the Imperial Republic. A purchasing office would be further established in Newhaven for purchases from Moorland.
