The Alalehzamini Autonomous Republic (AAR) is a division of Elwynn with a high degree of internal autonomy. It covers the southern half of Elwynn, with roughly half the population of Elwynn. The legislature of Elwynn, the Congress, has no jurisdiction over the AAR. Rather, all-Elwynn laws and matters are decided by the Council of Eliria, consisting of the Prince of Elwynn, and an equal number of representatives from Congress and the AAR.

Sometimes known as Alalehzamin or, simply, The South, the AAR traces its origins to the first Babkhi wave of immigration in the 1490s, and the establishment of the first Elwynnese subdivision, the County of Lesser Zjandaria, in 1509. To this day, the population of the AAR have a majority (56%) Babkhi-speaking population. Elw remains an active language in the province, however, with 22% of the population having it as a native tongue.

Name

Alalehzamin's name derives from the Babkhi "land of the lotus flower", as the Blue and White Elwynn rivers are known for their special lotus flowers, coloured blue in the Blue Elwynn and white in the White Elwynn. The historic Babkhi-derived name of the area, Lesser Zjandaria, stems from the Babkhan province of most immigrants at that time (Greater Zjandaria). In 1546, in a decree by Duke Iskander Mirkdale, Lesser Zjandaria was severed into several counties, of which the County of Alalehzamin became the largest.

Historically, the area roughly corresponding to the AAR have been known as the separate counties of Alalehzamin, Utasia, and Transelwynn, the Emirate of Alalehzamin and Utasia, and the Duchy of Akiordonnyr. Akordionnyr is the historic Elw name for the area, meaning "the land between the rivers". Although it is part of the AAR's official Elw name (Akordionnyh aamaenueqaveq), Alalezamin is the common Elw name for the area.

Utasia derives its name after the god Utas in the Book of the Orchids (a Treesian canon of the goddess Elwynn who was said to have lived in Elwynn.
