The Region of Cossa, also known as simply Cossa, is a region of Vegno, located in the eastern section of the country, bordering the Strait of Pearls to the east. The region comprises a population of about 694.421 people (on 1706 AN).

It is bordered by the other vegnese regions of Bassovento to the north-east, Compare to the north, Largoprato to the west and South Coast to the south. Its chief town is Cossa, which is also the capital and largest city in Vegno.

Geography

The region of Cossa comprises a small area compared to other vegnese regions and it has borders with Bassovento to the north-east, Compare to the north, Largoprato to the west, South Coast to the south, and the Strait of Pearls to the east. The region is mainly flat, with small mountainous areas.

The coast of Cossa is mainly composed of sandy beaches, punctuated by the headlands beyond the Gulf of Cantor. The internal districts are characterized by the flatlands of Pianura Vegnese, a once swampy and malarial area, that was reclaimed over the years.

Economy

Agriculture, crafts, animal husbandry and fishery are the main traditional sources of income. Agriculture is characterized by the cultivation of wine grapes, fruit, vegetables and olives.

Approximately 73% of the working population are employed in the services sector, which contribute 85.8% of regional GDP; this is a considerable proportion, but is justified by the presence of Cossa, which is the core of public administration, media, utility, telecommunication, transport, tourism and other sectors in Vegno. Many national and multinational corporations, public and private, have their headquarters in Cossa.

Industrial development is though limited to the areas north of Cossa.

Government and politics

Cossa is centre-left politically oriented by tradition, while in the whole region the situation is more fought. In the 1710 regional elections, the region of Cossa gave almost 30% of its vote to the centre-left party of PDC, while the right-wing PNV took 24% of vote. The actual president of the region, in charge till 1715 is Giovanni Oliva (PDC).

Administrative divisions

Cossa is divided into five provinces and one metropolitan city:

One of the most famous forms of food in Cossa is pasta. Guanciale is used in several sauces. Guanciale is the cut of pork obtained from the cheek of the pig, crossed by lean veins of muscle with a component of valuable fat, of a composition different from lardo (back fat) and pancetta (belly fat): the consistency is harder than pancetta and it possesses a more distinctive flavor. Guanciale is salted pork fat, different from bacon, which is smoked.

Other popular vegetables are vegnese broccoli, asparagus, fava bean, cima di rapa, lettuce, pumpkin, zucchini and chicory.

Sports

The region has two professional clubs who play in the highest division of vegnese football. The main sports stadium in Cossa is Stadio San Giuann in Cossa which has housed both teams for a prolonged time and hosts the Derby della Capitale between the two clubs.
