Waldstahl, Istvanistani: forest steel, is a material based on wood that was developed by Altdorf Schiffbau, a defence and shipbuilding company located in Altdorf in the Republic of Sankt Ludwigshafen. According to specifications provided by Altdorf Schiffbau, the material is stronger than steel. The exact procedure to create Waldstahl is classified, but it involves boiling the wood in a caustic solution and treating it with natural resins. Walstahl is an important construction material for the Mehrzweckzerstörer I.Gen of the Kriegsflotte Ludwigshafen, also developed and constructed by Altdorf Schiffbau.

In 1718, Waffenschmiederei Ludwigshafen announced that it would make use of Waldstahl for the rifle stocks of the Maschinenpistole 1720, succeeding the Repetierbüchse 1699, that was under development to become the next standard rifle of the Ludwiggian armed forces. The material was selected for its durability in wet circumstances, compared to normal wood stocks.
