The National Space Bureau (Sanama) is the national agency responsible for the space programme in Sanama. Formed as the National Space Directorate in 1681, its mission is to coordinate and facilitate Sanaman participation in space exploration, research and satellite construction and deployment. The directorate cooperates closely with the Sanaman Armed Forces and various other agencies and universities in Sanama. In 1691 construction began on Gehenn Island in So Sara of a space centre, to give Sanama the ability to launch satellites and later manned spacecraft.
Strategic cooperation
The directorate cooperates with Sanama Arms Industries for construction of parts for satellites and space stations, and with Simines for production of electronics for the same. Since 1683 Sanama is also a partner in the Senyan Space Programme.
Gehenn Space Center
The Gehenn Space Center is the main facility for the Sanaman space programme. It is located on the island of Gehenn in So Sara, since 1703 once again a part of Shireroth. Sanama bought the right to use the facility at the end of 1704 after an agreement between the governments was reached. The facility still stands on Shirerithian territory, but Sanama owns the right to use the land. Security for the facility is provided by the National Space Bureau Office of Safety which controls checkpoints and patrols the grounds. Access to the facility is limited to National Space Bureau personnel and approved visitors to the visitors' center. The facility is also regularly visited by Shirerithian officials. The facility is strictly off limits to military personnel, except for those serving in the National Space Bureau and the astronaut programme.
Astronaut programme
The bureau is the coordinating agency for the Sanaman astronaut programme, initiated in X.1683 after Sanama joined the Senyan programme. In XIV.1683 the selection process for the first class of astronauts was completed. They were deployed to Space City in Senya shortly after to begin astronaut training. The second class were accepted in 1704 for training at the Gehenn Space Center.
