The People's Defence Force is the land warfare force of the People's Armed Services of Sanama. It was founded in 1698 during the Sanaman Civil War as the warfare arm of the Sanamati Democratic Party and serves as the army for Sanama since 1702. Overall direction of the PDF when it comes to training, development, staffing and administration is exercised by the People's Defence Force Command Council, consisting of the senior officers commissioned by the Defence Committee, as well as representatives elected from the units of the PDF. Command in regards to combat activities and deployment on the other hand follows a strict military command structure, with overall authority vested in the Commanding General of the People's Defence Force.
Organisation
The PDF is divided into the Combat Readiness Arm, the Territorial Army, the Support Arm and the Administrative Arm. These sections of the PDF are not entirely reflected in the formal organisation, instead the Combat Readiness Arm, Support Arm and Administrative Arm are organised together, while the Territorial Army utilises the support and administrative structures in their areas of responsibility. The main combat force is organised into geographical divisions with subordinate units, while the Territorial Army, tasked with defending the territory of the nation as well as critical infrastructure, is organised into separate regiments responsible for one or several cantons. For administrative ease, these are here grouped together under the divisions, but in peacetime are not subordinate to the divisions. During times of mobilisation or war, the Territorial Army comes under the command of the division headquarters.
