Project Space Armor is a fully operational multistatic radar system developed by the New Alexandrian government to detect orbital objects passing over Nouvelle Alexandrie. The system was built to complement the system of Home Defense Citadel Chains, which were a part of the New Prosperity Plan defense infrastructure spending. Project Space Armor is integrated into the greater national system of sensors, sonar, ballistic missile defenses, and radar to provide the commander and leadership of the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie with an accurate picture of any aerospace or maritime threat. The system is capable of detecting basketball-sized objects at heights of up to 30,000 km (19,000 mi).

Research and development for Project Space Armor started in 1686 AN as part of the New Prosperity Plan defense spending. A consortium consisting of the New Alexandrian Department of Defense, National Science Administration, Javelin Industries, Neridia Defense Industries, and Dingo Enterprises was responsible for the development of the system. Contracts for its development and construction were issued in 1696 AN after years of pre-development, research, and consultation, with the project becoming fully operational in 1701 AN. The budget for the project was €2 billion écu.

Background

The rapid expansion of the Federation across multiple continents and small island chains presented new challenges for the defense of the nation. The need for an updated and comprehensive defense strategy became imperative. The Department of Defense initiated a survey of different allies' needs in the Raspur Pact and found that technologies to expand space-based defense capabilities were needed to be deployed quickly. The survey revealed serious concerns within Nouvelle Alexandrie such as the threat of hostile forces in space increasing and the possibility of attacks on Nouvelle Alexandrie through space. Nouvelle Alexandrie needed a way to detect and track objects passing over the nation to have timely and accurate information about any potential threat.

In order to address these challenges, the New Alexandrian government, in partnership with leading technology companies, initiated Project Space Armor. The system was designed to provide the commander and the leadership of the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie with a comprehensive and accurate picture of any aerospace or maritime threat, in real-time. Seeking expertise from world-leaders on aerospace technology, Nouvelle Alexandrie engaged Natopia in discussions for cooperation, leading to both seeking private and public stakeholders in their defense industries to work together. This led to the creation of a consortium consisting of the New Alexandrian Department of Defense, National Science Administration, Javelin Industries, Neridia Defense Industries, and Dingo Enterprises in 1686 AN. The project was considered a top priority and was fully funded with a budget of €2 billion écu in 1686 AN, with Natopia contributing a significant portion of technology, staff, funding, and expertise to the project.

Development

A consortium composed of the New Alexandrian Department of Defense, National Science Administration, Javelin Industries, Neridia Defense Industries, and Dingo Enterprises was responsible for the development of Project Space Armor.

Deployment

Project Space Armor was deployed as a fully operational system in 1701 AN, and since then, it has been providing the New Alexandrian government with an accurate picture of any aerospace or maritime threat.
