Gerenian Ice Hockey League (also referred to as the Ice League, Gerenian: Leran Hokyýeles Gherenslenes) is a semi-professional ice hockey league composed of eight teams in Gerenia. It is run by the SHG (Strazal Hokyes Gherenslenes, Gerenian Hockey Association).
History
The League was founded in late 2012 by the then Gerenian Hockey National Commission in order to develop ice hockey in Gerenia. Soon afterwards, eight teams applied for membership, which was granted to all during December. The first season was announced to take place in 2013, from March to September.
Format
The season commences mid March and runs through to the last weekend of August. Games are usually played on Saturday or Sunday. Teams nominally play each of their seven opponents in the league four times for a total of 24 regular season games.
The four best teams qualify for the playoffs, which consist on a two-legged semi-final (1st v 4th, 2nd v 3rd), and a single-game final held in a neutral venue.
