The both of them were devout Nazarene followers since an early age but were disappointed in Nazarene theology as they learned more of it. From 1714 onwards the two were introduced to a secret Siseranist doomsday cult that was active in Hurmu, but felt the views of that group a bit too extreme and they left the group in 1716 before they got married. The two were married on 20.XI.1716 and left Hurmu  less than a month later when Simon was appointed Stadtholder.
