Jingtown is the catch-all name for an ethnic enclave of Jing people located outside Jingdao, most often in an urban setting. They are characterized by their unique cultural and social practices, including a distinct language, cuisine, and art. They are often referred to as "Little Jingdao," as they are home to many people who trace their cultural roots to Jingdao. Commonly, Jingtowns have a variety of businesses and services that cater to the needs of their local population.
They are typically overpopulated and therefore close-knit, with strong ties between family and friends that span generations. The neighborhoods often feature a variety of festivals and events to celebrate the culture and heritage of the Jingdaoese and Kildarian people.
Jingtowns are also known for their vibrant art and music scenes. From traditional Jingdaoese performance art to classical Blackrockian march music, there is something for everyone to enjoy in a Jingtown. Additionally, Jingtowns are often home to some of the better restaurants (if one has to believe the leaflet that some little malnourished child pushed you in your hand), serving up a variety of Jingdaoese and Kildarian dishes.
Jingtowns are important cultural centers, providing a safe haven for Jingdaoese and Kildarian people to practice and celebrate their culture. They are a source of pride and comfort to their communities, and a reminder of the shared history between the Greater Kildarian peoples.
They often have their own security detachment, made up of locals. This militia often acts outside of the law, but it is said that they keep the peace and protect the people of the Jingtown. Caught criminals are often harshly punished without any approval from the authorities. More often than not, this leads to militiamen getting arrested themselves. Due to the support the militia receives, it's difficult to condemn them for what they did. It's a well known fact that one or more Tegong safe houses are located in these neighborhoods, supervising any non-Jingdaoese behavior. In some regions of Micras such as in the Imperial Federation, such Jingtowns on the frontier regions are also treated with approval by the local authorities, which generally leave law enforcement to these "local self-governing officials."
