The left-wing parties were highly critical of Batavia's accession to the USSO. They feared a deterioration of relations with their eastern neighbour even before accession. After the accession, it turned out that the eastern neighbour had also erected all kinds of fortifications along the border. They pointed this out in the elections. The Lagerhuis elecions of 1705 AN were the second elections after Gisela Starck became Prime Minister. The election results turned out to be little different, in contrast to the turbulent campaign period preceding it. The Conservative Monarchist Party retained the majority, allowing it to continue governing without support from any other party.
Starck was strongly criticised for allowing the former king Arkadius IV and his second wife to be interred in the Cathedral of ‘s Koningenwaarde. The opposition argued that if a king leaves his in great distress, he should not be given the honour of interment. Gisela was not impressed by this argument and stated that there should be respect for the dead.
The left-wing parties were highly critical of Batavia's accession to the USSO. They feared a deterioration of relations with their eastern neighbour even before accession. After the accession, it turned out that the eastern neighbour had also erected all kinds of fortifications along the border. They pointed this out in the elections. Gisela said that this reaction was calculated and that the fortifications are very 17th century. "We are now living in the 18th century, start acting like it!". Then she pointed out the good relations with Çakaristan, including military cooperation and trade relations.
