2011 was the second year of professional sport in Mercury. The Mercury national football team was founded in 2011 and competed in their first World Cup qualification campaign.
National teams
The national team competed as Mercury for the first time in 2011. They took part in the 2011 FMF World Cup qualification, which doubled as qualification for the 2011 EMU Championships. Mercury finished third in their four-team group, failing to qualify for the 2011 FMF World Cup, however as the best-ranked third-placed side, they earned a place in the EMU Championships.
Mercury's first appearance in a major tournament saw them finish a creditable fourth in their six-team group, picking up four draws from their five group games.
