Original suspension
The election was originally suspended in 1706 AN after the suspension of the Labour Party however after the formation of the SDP, the election was reinstated after a brief period of martial law ordered by the Trueman Administration.
Campaign issues
Port Balaine
Port Balaine was annexed by Floria just one month before the election. Both parties had varying views on the new territory but both parties had different plans for the Norfolk Isles archipelago. With the UPR wanting to grant the Liberation Islands to the new territory and the SDP continuing to respect its borders and keep the archipelago under separate states.
Economy
The UPR had no intentions of increasing the minimum wage however the SDP wanted to increase it to $20. The SDP also proposed stricter taxes for multinational companies operating in Floria in a bid to remove oligarchal power within Floria.
Military aggression
UPR were in support of aggression if one nation opposed the national interests of Floria. The SDP on the other hand proposed that Floria should sign MTO treaties restricting them of aggression and instead focus on border defence amidst the ongoing confrontation with Çakaristan.
National Defence
Both parties agreed on fixing the nation's naval force as both parties saw it as the biggest weakness in its already strong military.
Other
The SDP proposed many other plans in its manifesto. The proposals were as follows:
- Decrease dependence on fossil fuels domestically but continue to export them globally whilst switching to cleaner energy.
- Lower the voting age to 16.
- Promise to make it easier for foreign residents to become settled in Floria.
