The Republic of Baracão (short form: Baracão) was a Micras-based micronation founded in May 2002.
Brief History
Baracão was the result of several early Apollo Sector communist nations, the Proletarian Democratic Union and Noviykrazniystan, led by Dafydd Young and Kuralyov respectively, both of which were struggling to find a national identity. The birth of Baracão was shrouded in clandestine obscurity as the PDU forums were quietly made over into the Holy Empire of Minorca, which was then quickly embroiled in a communist revolution led by Antonio Vitores Ramon based out of the Islas de la Libertad. Minorca was quickly overthrown and Baracão rose in its place, themed almost entirely on Cuba and Fidel Castro's regime. It became extremely popular with the numerous left-leaning micro nationalists of the time and attracted many participants. Although the communist aspect was often tongue-in-cheek, Baracão nonetheless became a vibrant community project that helped spawn many other projects. Its legacy reverberates throughout the community to this day.
