Valora is known officially as the "Dominion of Valora" since the transition from "North Valora" in 1724 AN. Greater Valora is a Dominion (effectively a constituent country) of the Imperial Federation, presiding over the provinces of New Ralgon, North Valora, West Valora, and the island of Tar-Palantir from its capital of Yixing. Valora forms one of the new constituent countries of the Imperial Federation, the others being Imperial Ralgon and Bassaridia.

While the present-day "nation of Valora" ostensibly includes those regions including both a substantial Valoran and/or Ralgonese majority in the population, certain major exclusions apply to this principle. Excluded from this territory's formation were Nova Victoria (a so-called "free city"), and Imperial Cibola, a colony governed instead from nearby Glacier City on the island of Drag'os. Also not included in this territorial plan was the region's sparsely populated southern frontier of South Valora, which joined the Mondosphere in a mutually arranged agreement in 1715 AN following the aftermath of the Ralgon War of Succession.

History

Ralgon War of Succession

The current territory was formed after the Conquest of Valora by the winning side of the Ralgon War of Succession, a conflict which saw a final end in 1715 AN with a near-complete Imperial Federation victory over the Valoran-backed pretender Emperor-King Draeg'ar IX. Paired with the early loss of Tar-Palantir to Imperial Forces and the failure to secure Nova Victoria and environs at any stage of the war, the military situation became unsustainable as Valora now lacked even a stable coastal frontier.

During the final weeks of the war, ground communication was completely cut off between the capital of Yixing and the other remaining regional centers due to a surge in undead attacks, leading to the final collapse of authority of the Emperor-King, Draeg'ar Ral IX. An opportune invasion by mobile Imperial Federation forces saw Draeg'ar's ouster from the capital of Yixing, and shortly thereafter the surrender of the joint Ralgo-Valoran authorities to the Imperial Federation. The principality is headed by Prince Benimaru Ral VIII, a nephew of independent Valora's erstwhile ruler, Draeg'ar Ral IX. The latter amongto the south, where descendants of the exiled Draeg'ar Ral IX rule a tiny rump state under the auspices of Mondo.

While the entire region of "Greater Valora" was briefly unified in its entirety in the wake of the Conquest of Valora, the southern frontier split off to join the Mondophere as a rump state in the aftermath. This transition was made easier due to the long-standing political and ethnic differences between the heavily rural, independently minded South Valorans and their northern, more Ralgonese-influenced counterparts. Thus, the timely cession to Mondo proved both agreeable and expedient to most parties involved (not least the exiled royal family, which now rules that territory from Korzan).

Post-War Valora

Valora quickly rebuilt following the neutralization and even repurposing of most of the formerly aggressive, errant undead after the war, thanks in no small part to help from Mondo. With the Imperial Federation providing a local ruler pleasing to Ralgonese and Valorans in the region, consolidating Imperial rule there proved to be a comparatively small challenge, given the rapidly consolidating support for the new regime, thanks to the speedy recovery in the economy, physical security, and coherent authority structures throughout Valora and New Ralgon.

The accelerating (and inseparable) mingling of the Ralgonese peoples present with the Valoran locals meant that separatism following the war moved closer to being a nonissue with each passing month. Eventually, Imperial control of the region was cemented to the point where the region could eventually reunify into a consolidated polity under less closely managed Imperial rule in very little time. Additionally, the rapidly booming postwar population led to the decision to consolidate Valora into the Imperial fold as one of its constituent countries by 1724 AN, a move meant to further strengthen Imperial hold over this large and resource-rich area.
