State Defence Service ("Autokratorial Fist")
The State Defence Service, known colloquially as the "Autokratorial Fist", is an independent special operations unit of the Imperial State of Constancia. Administratively under the Military Chancellery of the Autokrator of Constancia but frequently associated with the State Protection Authority by virtue of their close cooperation.
The Autokratorial Fist was called a "service", and its employees regarded as salaried civil servants, however the unit, accumulating privileges and investments across the decades, gradually grew to the size of a motorised infantry division with own its constituent regiments.
Its role in the State Protection Authority was the protection of buildings and high-ranking officials under Operation Everlasting and was also a highly trained Motorised Infantry and public order force. Some have attributed its growth as to its real purpose to serve as a counter-coup unit, or as the final close protection unit of the Imperial House. It is surmised that this is the prevailing case since the reign of Giakoumis II, where even agents of the State Protection Authority may be countermanded by mere word of someone from the SDS.
It was composed of experienced and indoctrinated subjects, typically recruited from the Modanese diaspora, via the Humanist Vanguard or Honourable Company, possessed of long familiarity with the climate and cultures of Eura, that could be deployed to suppress rebellion and unrest.
History
The establishment of the Autokratorial Fist is not a matter of public record, but its first attestation can be dated to 14.VII.1724 AN. As such, the the formation of the service may, with a measure of confidence, be attributed to Iñigo during his tenure as Autokrator of Constancia.
