The Royal District of Zalae, commonly referred to as Zalae, was the capital of the Kingdom of the Union of Caputia.
The City of Zalae and some of its suburbs and exurbs were included in the Royal District. As of the 1663 census, it had a population of 1,848,189.
After Caputia collapsed during the White Plague, the city and religious buildings were all but deserted, and slowly fell into ruin following a long period of temporal hemorrhaging. The Hexarchy rebuilt the city about a decade after its foundation and expansion into the region beginning in 1685. The city's rebuilding was completed in 1693, amid an influx of migrants from around the new country and abroad.
The area is known in the present day as New Zalae, which has many of the Old City's religious buildings either intact or fully restored. The city was, in a ceremony filled with pomp and circumstance, opened and presented by Praetor Gilgamesh II as a "gift to the people" and also to the faithful of those belonging to the Melusinian Faith (and attached to the old Church of Caputia).
