Wechuahuasi is a major port city and special municipality in the Santander region of Nouvelle Alexandrie, with a population of 2,188,432 (1723 AN census). Located on the , it serves as one of the Federation's principal maritime gateways and is home to the Port of Wechuahuasi, one of the largest commercial ports in Keltia. The city is renowned for its shipbuilding industry, maritime research facilities, and its role as a major technological and financial hub in Nouvelle Alexandrie.
Founded in 1689 AN during the early expansion period of the New Prosperity Plan, Wechuahuasi was strategically developed as both a major deep-water port and a planned urban center to serve the growing maritime needs of the Federation. The city is divided into 12 distinct boroughs, with the historic Old Town and modern Central Wechuahuasi districts forming its commercial and cultural core. The city's architecture reflects its maritime heritage and planned development, combining traditional Wechua design elements with modern urban planning principles.
Today, Wechuahuasi is a significant economic center within Nouvelle Alexandrie, particularly notable for its maritime industries, technological sector, and growing financial services hub. The city hosts several important institutions including the Wechuahuasi Institute of Maritime Studies, the University of Wechuahuasi, and numerous research facilities focused on marine technology and engineering. Its strategic location and modern infrastructure have made it an important node in both domestic and international shipping networks, particularly for trade routes within the Raspur Pact economic sphere.
Etymology
The name "Wechuahuasi" derives from the Wechua language, combining wechua (the name of the indigenous people and their language) and huasi (meaning "house" or "dwelling place"). This name was chosen during the city's founding in 1689 AN to honor the Wechua heritage of the original settlers of the city, Wechua people from the diaspora created due to the Wechua Sorrow. When urban planners and maritime engineers selected the site for development under the New Prosperity Plan, they chose to name it Wechuahuasi, as well as to emphasize its intended role as a "home of the Wechua" on the coast. The name has remained unchanged since the city's founding, though it is sometimes informally referred to as "The Maritime Gateway" (Mama Qucha Punku in Wechua, Puerta Marítima in Martino) due to its significance as a major port city.
