Vischreede (Crandan: Vischreede; Anglo-Saksen: Fishrede) is a fishing port on the southern coast of the Free Duchy of Anglien, southwest of Montrial across the strait. The town is one of the duchy's principal commercial fishing harbors. The name derives from the Crandish visch (fish) and reede (roadstead), a reference to the sheltered anchorage in which the fishing fleet rides at low water.
Geography and transport
Vischreede lies on a low, sheltered stretch of Anglien's southern shore, facing the southern reaches of the Purple Isles channel. The harbor is shallow and suited to small fishing craft rather than deep-draft commercial vessels. The southern coast around Vischreede was among the landing areas of the intervention's Phase 6 push toward Shelsa in V.1754 AN. A coastal road links the town northward toward Bergbuurg and inland toward Shelsa.
Economy and population
The town's economy rests on commercial fishing and fish processing, with the bulk of the catch landed for the inland Anglien market. Its permanent population, estimated at approximately 8,000 in 1755 AN and recorded at 8,500 by the 1757 AN census, is predominantly Crandish, with a smaller Anglo-Saksen coastal community. Vischreede returns no separate seat to the Diet of Anglien, voting within the eastern districts bailiwick constituency.
