Colonel Villiam Al-Basani is a Goldshirithian lawyer and economist, who was appointed as the Governor-Representative of the Royal Iron Company of Goldshire following the grant of a Royal Warrant by Queen Noor bint Daniyal.

Early life

Villiam was born of a lowborn (Category C) Babkhi family in the town of Aqabâ in Eura. Category C Subjects were defined typically as being of nomadic and indigent stock, including sand-tinkers, gun-wallahs, Kobaid Cossacks, itinerant merchants of no fixed abode belonging to tribal entities existing on the societal periphery of the Imperial State but nonetheless subordinate to the Imperial Crown. The trucial nature of the tribal association with the crown precluded the granting of citizenship. He joined the armed forces of Babkha as a young man, where he overcame the disadvantage of his birth and reached the rank of Sarhang Dovom (Lieutenant-Colonel) in the Yemin Zoka Gendarmes due to his keen intellect and ruthless efficiency in developing a tactical system for employing Category E Mondesians, known as the Bandaka for their caste-shame, in mine clearance operations during the Euran Cold War against Ashkenatza. Attached to the Union Defence Force as an adviser, he was overseas when a dispute over the succession to the Kapav throne led to an act of nuclear self-immolation, known as the Euran Apocalypse, which destroyed the Kingdom of Babkha. With no other option he remained in the service of the Union Defence Force after the reunification of Elwynn with Shireroth. After the Communist Revolution of 1612, Villiam fled to Goldshire where he studied law. Subsequently, Villiam became a lawyer in Goldshire Hamlet until he joined the Iron Company.

Governor-Representative

As Governor-Representative, Villiam was tasked with the security of the newly founded Golshirithian branch of the company. In a time of civil war, it was difficult for the Royal Iron Company to safeguard the mines and mercantile transports were also frequently interrupted by the war efforts. Under the leadership of Villiam Al-Basani, the Royal Iron Company managed to turn the civil war into an opportunity, especially by trading iron, a crucial material for the production of weaponry, to armies and mercenaries on both sides of the conflict.

Accident

Al-Basani passed away while on board of an Iron Company Airship.

Family

Until the Jingdaoese occupation Villiam had maintained a well-stocked harem on Blackstone Island whilst keeping a number of concubines at his mansion, known as the Residency, in the city of Chryse.

After returning to duty following a mysterious 'incident' during the Civil War in Goldshire, Villiam took for himself a wife apiece in Chryse and in Erudition also, tying himself to a merchant family in the former and landed gentry in the latter. In addition Villiam began the practice of adopting the sons and daughters of leading notables in the Free Cities under his jurisdiction; these he treats as hostages and or concubines as the mood or necessity takes him.

In consequence he has amassed a considerable brood comprising of seven sons and thirteen daughters, all of whom are being raised and educated for service with the Iron Company in their turn.

No accurate count has been kept of his bastard progeny but their numbers are commonly reputed to be considerable. Certainly over the course of the year 1650 feral gangs of urchins, known collectively as "Basani's Whelps", have emerged from the bush to terrorise the rice, palm oil, coffee, rubber, cocoa, and nutmeg plantations of Amity's interior. The extent to which their dubiously attributed father exercises any guiding influence upon their depredations remains a mystery.
