Valaris is a suburban hold within the Kingdom of Ashinthael. It is situated west of Summit at the westernmost terminus of the kingdom. It is somewhat isolated by the Dagoran Spine, which ends further west in Summit, and drops precipitously in elevation as one enters Valaris. This natural barrier has somewhat isolated the Hold from the rest of Ashinthael, making it culturally more akin to its neighboring states of Hurmu and Lac Glacei. Indeed, the Hold was established by knights from Lac Glacei who served under the banner of Ashinthael during the Golden Age of Arminy. This unit, known as the Knights of Silver, lent their swords to defending Ashinthael and eventually switched allegiances altogether when Arming collapsed. They settled in the area and founded the eponymous city of Silveria. Due to both the physical and cultural proximity of the population to the surrounding area, Valaris industrialized at a more rapid pace than the rest of Ashinthael. Today it serves as a major business hub for the kingdom. The only difficulties remaining being that of getting goods from The Palatinate through Summit to Valaris, what with the combined effects of both a harsh terrain and a not-so-friendly populace. Indeed, in recent years there has been even talk of blasting a rail tunnel through the mountain so as to bypass Summit altogether. This remains to be accomplished as most are hesitant to anger the Witch of the Summit; and with due cause.
