The Strait of Vegno (Vegnian: Stretto di Vegno) is a narrow strait between the continental territory of Apollonia and Vegno (Region of Caponord) and the island of Falange. It connects the Northern Sea to the north-east with the Strait of Pearls to the west. It is, along its entire extension, almost always 48 km wide.

The Strait of Vegno Bridge was built on it in 1713 AN, which allowed the extension of both highway and railway connections from the continental territories to the island of Falange.

Marine life

Due to its unique hydrogeological conditions the Strait of Vegno has high levels of biodiversity and multiple endemic species. In its waters there is a strong presence of deep sea fishes which, due to the particular and peculiar currents of the strait, are occasionally found stranded on the shore at sunrise. The strait is also an important point of migration of many species of fish from the Northern Sea to the Strait of Pearls and later also in the Captive Sea and Orange Sea.

Transportation

For years, the possibility of building a bridge across the Strait of Vegno has been under discussion in the vegnese government. The first project was a officially proposed by the political party of Forza Vegno ahed of the 1706 Vegno elections, and it was formally approved by the government under the Zarrella I Cabinet.

The works continued for the entire duration of the first government, except for fear of a blockade due to the 1709 Vegno Elections. The results of the elections were, however, comforting for the government in office, which continued to allocate funds to complete the project, which saw the completion in 1713 AN, after 6 years of construction.

The official inauguration took place in the first quarter of 1713 AN, responding to a great expectation on the part of the citizens, especially from the regions of Caponord and Falange.
