The Staten-Generaal, or known during the Second Kingdom as Houses of the Realm (Huyzen van het Koninkrijk), acts as the bicameral parliament and supreme legislative body of the Kingdom of Batavia.
It was first established during the early days of the First Kingdom, although its ways of functioning differed. Originally having been an unicameral body, it was transformed into a bicameral parliament during the Second Kingdom as a way to solve tensions between landholders and nobility at one hand and the rising demands for power for the people at the other hand.
The Parliament and its Hogerhuis and Lagerhuis have been located in 's Koningenwaarde ever since.
