Movement for a Free Elwynn
The Movement for a Free Elwynn was an Elwynnese party founded in order to compete in the 1680 Elwynnese congress election. Its ideology could be summarized as classically liberal.
In its promotional materials the Movement purported to comprise of people not previously involved in politics who claimed to be disgruntled and disgusted by the state of politics in Elwynn, the dirty politicking, and the constant banning of the Prince's opponents. In spite of these claims, the Daily Mail & Telegraph of Eliria was able to identify several former Verionist politicians and Ayreonist activists amongst its founding cadres.
The 1680 electoral manifesto wanted Elwynn to:
- protect and support human rights (property, freedom of speech, religion, etc)
- give more power to the people, more elections, more referenda
- make peace with Francia
- institute a separation of "state and market"
- advance economic freedom
- leave the Raspur Pact ("E-xit")
Critics of the Movement had observed that the advocacy of "classical liberalism" had often been advanced by Verionist parties whilst in opposition only to be discarded in favour of undisguised authoritarianism once they have attained positions of power.
The party did not survive the year of its foundation, being banned as yet another attempt at organising a Verionist revival in the former Northern Commonwealth, combined with an effort to force the dismantling of the collective trade and security arrangements of Eastern Benacia.
