The Marches on Broekszaal were a series of protest marches in New Batavia towards the city of Broekszaal.

The first march was held on May 16, 2021, it was organized by the Green Committee (Het Groen Komiteit), which united descendants of former IIR citizens still living in the Green. They demanded a westward expansion of New Batavia and citizenship rights.

The second march was held on May 23, 2021. The South Corum Independence Party joined the Green Committee. This party represented settlers, mainly in the governorates of Dar Al-Hoeriya and Al-Ard Al-Moestasliha, where a lot of mixed families live and where English is the majority language, as opposed to Dutch. The protesters now also demanded language rights, next to expansion into the Green.

The third march was held on May 30, 2021. It was felt within the Green Committee that the political demands of the SCIP would overshadow the goals of the Green Committee, being citizenship rights and expansion. The SCIP was asked to support the march, but to leave harsh political demands behind. Nevertheless, this march attracted more than 300,000 protesters. The day after this third March, the cabinet announced to start negotiations with the Green Committee on their demands. The cabinet made a substantial claim, which was accepted on June 09, 2021.

Aftermath

The expansion into the Green didn't satisfy SCIP, which continued to address linguistic issues and pressed for independence. On July 31, 2021 a referendum was held, in which the governorates of Al-Ard Al-Moestasliha and Dar Al-Hoeriya voted to secede from New Batavia. That only two governorates voted to secede, was unexpected. The two seceding governorates formed a Provisional Government of what would become the new nation of Kurum Ash-Sharqia.
