The Lanzerwald Mark was the official currency of the Lanzerwald Republic, coexisting with but once thought to replace the A-Mark that was issued from 1739 to 1752, this currency replaced the Ludwigspfennig that was in use between 1680 to 1739 in Sankt Ludwigshafen and older Lanzerwald republics such as the Republic of the United Cities in the Lanzerwald and finally the Confoederatio Aemilia. The Lanzerwaldpfennig is a unit that equals one hundredth of the Lanzerwaldmark. The replacement of the A-Mark with the Lanzerwald Mark was cancelled when the Confoederatio Aemilia was restored in 1758.
Transition plan (original)
- Ludwigspfennig currency printed or coined by the Confoederatio Aemilia is valid currency for consumers until 1775, with business instructed to pay change back in marks, either A-Mark or Lanzerwald Mark. After 1775 they can be exchanged for Lanzerwald Marks at the national bank for 10 years, until 1785.
- Ludwigspfennig currency printed or coined by earlier states, such as Sankt Ludwigshafen or the old Lanzerwald republics can be exchanged for Lanzerwald Marks at the national bank until 1759, 10 years after they were phased out as legal currency in 1749.
- Between 1775 and 1788, the A-Mark will remain a valid currency for consumers, but businesses will be instructed to pay change back in Lanzerwald Mark only, similar to the phasing out period of the Ludwigspfennig. After 1788 they can be exchanged for Lanzerwald Marks at the national bank for 10 years, until 1798. Note, until 1775, the Lanzerwald Mark and the A-Mark are both considered legal tender in the Lanzerwald Republic and may be used interchangeably.
Phasing out
- Lanzerwald Mark will remain valid currency until 1788, the same as the A-Mark.
- Between 1788 and 1798 the Lanzerwald Mark will remain a valid currency for consumers, but businesses will be instructed to pay change back in A-Mark.
