The A-Mark, short for Aemilian Mark is the official currency of the Aemilian Federation, replacing the Ludwigspfennig that was in use from the establishment of the Republic of Sankt Ludwigshafen in 1680 AN to the Aemilian Federation succeeding the Confoederatio Aemilia in 1739 AN. While replacing the Ludwigspfennig, banknotes formerly printed by the Republic of the United Cities in the Lanzerwald since 1709 are valid currency for consumers until 1749 AN, and banknotes printed by the Confoederatio Aemilia are valid currency until 1775 AN. As a conversion rate, one Ludwiggian Großpfennig is considered to be worth half an A-Mark. While valid currency for consumers, business are not allowed to pay back change in Großpfennig, but are instead instructed to give change in A-Marks and return the Großpfennig to the national bank where they will be exchanged for A-Marks.
