Ferrovie dello Stato Vegnesi ("Vegnese Railways of the State", abbreviation FSV) is Vegno's national state-owned railway holding company that manages transport, infrastructure, real estate services and other services in Vegno Territory. The FSV manages a network of approximately 4,000 km of railway lines, which connect the main cities and regions of the country. FSV is the largest transport company in Vegno, with over 100 million passengers transported every year.
History
The FSV was born in 1705 AN, coinciding with the foundation of the state of Vegno, as part of a project to modernize and develop the country. The first stretch of railway, 852 km long, connected the capital Cossa with the city of Taurasi and was called the Direttissima. The Direttissima was inaugurated in 1708 AN, in the presence of the first President of the Republic of Vegno Antonio Visciglia and numerous illustrious guests and members of the government.
Over the years, FSV expanded its network by opening new lines and strengthening existing ones. Among the most important lines are the Scanzata-Agropl, which connects the north and south of the country, the Cossa-Villamagna, which crosses the center of the country, and the Murgione-Cossa. These lines were opened few years after the foundation of the company, to allow the connection of the main cities of Vegno with the subsequent large cities annexed with the 1707 Vegno Annexation Referendum.
After the construction of the Strait of Vegno Bridge, the FSV, in collaboration with the government, began the construction of the extension of the Scanzata-Agropl line up to the borders of the continental territories of Vegno, and then reached the city of Sancrus thanks to the newly built bridge accomplished. The cruising speed of trains on the bridge was limited by the company for safety reasons.
The Murgione-Taurasi was inaugurated in 1725 AN, after 10 years of work, and represented an engineering feat of great importance, as it overcame numerous natural obstacles, such as mountains, rivers and tunnels.
FSV has always focused on innovation and quality of service, introducing new technologies and improving the safety and comfort of passengers. Among the most significant innovations are the introduction of the 100% electrification of the lines in 1710 AN, the adoption of the automatic signaling system in 1715 AN, the installation of free wi-fi on board trains in 1720 AN, and the purchase of new high-speed trains in 1728 AN.
Operational lines
FSV currently manages 5 main national operational lines, which cover the entire national territory. In addition to these, there are numerous regional lines, which allow reduced travel within the various regions and small population centers.
The lines are divided into three categories: high speed (AV), medium distance (MD) and regional (R). The AV lines are the fastest and most frequent, and connect the main cities of the country and include 2 main lines, recognized by their colour. The high-speed lines are commonly called "Frecciarancio" and travel at a maximum speed of 300 km per hour.
The MD lines are intermediate, and are present in the Falange region, on the Strait of Vegno Bridge, on the line Cossa–Villamagna, Murgione – Cossa and Murgione – Taurasi. These lines are composeb both by high-speed trains that travel at a limited speed for safety reasons, and have a maximum permitted speed of 200 km per hour or operating lines that have a maximum speed included between 220 and 250 km per hour.
The R lines, on the other hand, are the slowest and least expensive, connect the main cities within the individual regions and are managed by local detachments of the FSV company.
The high-speed operational lines present on the national territory of the FSV are the following:

Rates
FSV applies differentiated rates based on the category of the line, the class of the train, the distance traveled and the type of passenger. Rates are expressed in Vegnese rino (Rin), the official currency of Vegno.
The basic rates per kilometer are as follows:
Category | Class | Rate (Rin/km) |
---|---|---|
AV | First Class | 10 |
AV | Second Class | 7 |
MD | Single Class | 5 |
R | Single Class | 3 |
Reductions or increases apply to these fares based on the type of passenger. The reductions are as follows:
Type | Reduction (%) |
---|---|
Children (up to 12 years) | 50 |
Young (up to 25 years) | 20 |
Elderly (over 65 years) | 30 |
Students | 25 |
Disabled | 40 |
Militaries | 35 |
Le maggiorazioni sono le seguenti:
Tipologia | Maggiorazione (%) |
---|---|
Business | 15 |
Flexi | 10 |
The Business typology allows access to exclusive services, such as the waiting room, on-board catering, seat reservation and the possibility of changing or canceling the ticket without additional costs. The Flexi type only allows you to change or cancel the ticket for free without paying a penalty. These two rates are only available for AV and MD lines.
FSV also offers special offers to encourage the use of the train, such as the FSV Card, which allows you to accumulate points and obtain discounts and prizes, the Family Card, which allows four to travel for the price of three, the Weekend Card, which allows you to travel on Saturdays and Sundays with a 50% reduction, and the Tourist Card, which allows you to travel for a week with a fixed rate. Numerous efforts and incentives have been made by the vegnese government to encourage the use of trains to the detriment of the car to reduce CO2 emissions and environmental pollution.
Technologies
FSV uses the most advanced technologies to guarantee the safety, efficiency and comfort of its trains and infrastructure. Among the technologies used, we can mention:
- Electrification: all FSV lines are electrified, which allows reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the speed and acceleration of trains. FSV tries to obtain its electricity from renewable sources, such as solar, wind and hydroelectric.
- Automatic signaling: FSV has an automatic signaling system, which regulates rail traffic in real time, avoiding collisions, delays and accidents. The system is based on sensors, cameras and computers, which communicate with each other and with the trains via a wireless network thanks to the use of artificial intelligence.
- Free Wi-Fi: FSV offers its passengers the possibility of connecting to the internet for free via the Wi-Fi on board the trains. Wi-Fi allows you to browse the web, watch videos, listen to music, read e-books, play online games and work remotely.
- High-speed trains: FSV has a fleet of high-speed trains, which can reach 300 km/h. The high-speed trains are equipped with electric motors, aerodynamic carriages, optimized suspension and braking systems.
Collaborations
During 1729 AN the company began a close collaboration with Sentient Solutions Inc., signing a multi-year agreement with Alighiero Sagese, CEO of the company. Thanks to this agreement, FSV was able to benefit from the company's artificial intelligence programs which allowed a strong automation of the reporting and safety systems, guaranteeing lower costs and greater safety and timeliness in reporting, with the result of having reduced the 15% train accidents in the following year.
Following Silvio Gianni Linard's investments in the world of renewable energy, FSV also signed, in 1730 AN, an agreement with Linard's newly created company, the "Tazza o Bicchiere", which operates in the field of hydroelectric energy . With this agreement, FSV acquires a large part of the electricity used for its railway lines from renewable energy, with the aim of reaching the carbon neutral objective by 1750 AN.
