Credential ceremony
Shortly after their arrival in Batavia, new ambassadors are received by the King at the Koninklijk Paleis. This is accompanied by the necessary ceremony.
Ceremonial
In this way it is underlined that our country respects relations with foreign countries at the highest level.
Arrival
The ambassadors are picked up with a gala carriage, pulled by 2 horses at their residence in 's Koningenwaarde or at their hotel, when the ambassador resides abroad. At the Koninklijk Paleis they are met by a military guard of honour and a military chapel. After an honorary salute and playing the national anthem of the country of the ambassador, an inspection of the guard of honour follows.
In the palace, the ambassador hands over his credentials to the King. This is followed by a brief introductory meeting.
Letter of Credence
The letter states that the diplomat is authorized to speak on behalf of his head of state or government. This letter also confirms the good relations between the two countries. From the moment that the King has accepted the credential, the new ambassador is formally in office.
Gift
It is customary for a new ambassador to offer a gift to the King. This is often something that is characteristic of the country of origin.
