Crandish Island
Crandish Island (Crandish: Aujolant, "island-land"; Hurmu Norse: Krandoya; Lakkvian Krantsaar or Krandisaar) is the largest island of the Lake District, located off the north coast of Lyrica. The island forms a municipality of its own, the only municipality in the Lake District where a plurality of the population speak Crandish. The island is separated from the mainland by the Krandsund ("Crandish Sound"), and is connected to the mainland by bridge in the north (close to Ninola) and in the south (close to Hilde).
The island was settled by Crandishmen beginning in the 1480s after Hurmu became a fief of the Crandish crown. The Crandish established their institutions and trading ports on the island, allowing the Hurmu people to largely run their own affairs on the mainland instead.
The main towns on the island are:
- Krandaborg (Hurmu Norse) – Krantbuurg (Crandish) – Krantlinn/Krandlinn (Lakkvian)
- Yker (Hurmu Norse) – Üker (Crandish) – Üüker (Lakkvian)
- Ninola (Lakkvian)
- Hilde (Hurmu Norse)
- Rafnvik (Hurmu Norse) – Rabanwiichs (Crandish)
- Fjallarnes (Hurmu Norse) – Feltniss (Crandish)
- Grimarvik (Hurmu Norse) – Griimwiichs (Crandish)
