Broadcasting in the Lanzerwald Republic
Television
Television has been introduced to the Lanzerwald during the reign of Emilia Antoinette over the Confoederatio Aemilia. The first show that was broadcasted was The Housewives of Lindström, since 1726, often on television sets imported from Natopia. A spin-off called The Housewives of Taktwinkel was broadcasted in 1727. With no other shows available, and many feeling uncomfortable with this type of programme, the medium died out quickly and it was not until 1751 that the Sozialprogressive Einheitspartei des Lanzerwalds realised that television could also be used to educate the population of the republic and explain the tenets of social progressivism. Alch Digital Systems was asked to design television sets that could be used in the home and in schools and that could only receive approved channels. The medium has gained a modest popularity, although it's not as popular as the radio or printed media. Most households do not own a television set, and television is mostly watched at school by students or in the local library when there are notable shows.
Channels
There is one national public channel which provides news bulletins every two hours and which broadcasts educational documentaries the rest of the time, this channel is called Fernsehkanal 1. The states of the republic have their own channels which broadcast local news bulletins one hour after the national public channel does during the working day hours and the national news bulletin at the same time as they are shown on the national channel. Documentaries on the own state are broadcasted the rest of the time. Besides these channels that are aimed at adults, a channel aimed at children called the Schulfernsehkanal (school television channel) sends documentaries and programmes aimed at children, that can be shown in schools by teachers. Examples of private channels that are available are that of the Musikverein Sankt Rosa and the University of Walstadt, which have irregular broadcasting schedules, meaning that most of the time they do not broadcast anything at all, but the channel is only activated when there are shows that have been announced beforehand.
Restrictions
Television sets must be constructed so, using a special decoder, that they can only receive the channels that have been approved by the state, foreign channels cannot legally be received. Private channels can be established but must be educational or culturally elevating. In television programs the faces of all children must be made unrecognisable. Television programs can be broadcasted without prior approval of state censors, but all television studios are able to discuss with censors before airing their shows to check that they do not promote racism, sexism and other reactionary viewpoints.
Radio
Senders
The various states of the republic have their own radio senders, with their own programs, on the main station every full hour the national news is reported and thirty minutes later the regional news. Besides wireless radio, radio sets that use the television cable exist for use inside buildings.

Restrictions
Radio sets must be constructed so that they can only receive the frequencies of the government operated radio stations. It is a crime to operate a private radio station, and to manufacture or manipulate a radio set so that it can private or foreign stations or to import a foreign radio set. Owning an illegal set and listening to private and foreign stations is not prosecuted but the radio set can be confiscated. Pirate radio stations are located with AQ-5 Sentinel drones outside the city, smaller drones inside the city, and then raided by the Volkspolizei. With regard to punishment, the following considerations apply:
- Is the pirate radio station operating on a frequency used by one of the approved stations, or interfering with the frequencies of a neighbouring state?
- Does the pirate radio station broadcast harmful content?
- Does the pirate radio station have a commercial interest in its operation?
- Have the people behind the radio station been caught before?
Punishments vary from a small fine (50 𐌻𐌼) for first-offending amateurs and confiscation of the sending equipment to several years in prison for subversive propagandists. Operating a pirate radio station is also grounds for removal from the Sozialprogressive Einheitspartei des Lanzerwalds, reducing one's social standing.
