The Battenworth House, also known as the House of Justice, is the official headquarters of the Department of Justice in Nouvelle Alexandrie. It is located in the Government Triangle District in Cárdenas. It was completed in 1687 AN. The building is named after Marcel Battenworth, the primary architect of the building and a co-creator of many of Cárdenas' iconic streets.
The House includes 2 buildings: the central complex, known for its neoclassical style, housing most of the department's staff; and a civil service annex in its back, housing the majority of the Civil Service personnel. The former also houses the Press Room, the location for official public conferences; and the Law Library, a major repository of legal works, second only to the Presidential Archives.
The building was constructed in 1686 AN as part of the New Prosperity Plan and the Cárdenas Plan to house the Department of Justice. The building is known for its neoclassical style with tall front column façade, entry steps, and rectangular windows.
Buildings and Rooms
Departmental Office
The building has four floors, housing the majority of the offices for the sub-departments. The Secretary and Deputies have dedicated offices on the fourth floor. The entry hall has a long winding staircase, as well as a statue depicting Lady Justice.
Civil Service Annex
This building is connected to Battenworth House, and is known for its more sober concrete walls and tall windows. It houses the majority of the Federal Civil Service, performing secretarial and managerial duties for the departments, and acting as liaisons to the Government House. The building has two stories.
Civil Service
The Federal Civil Service System works within the building, staffed with a mix of Civil Servants and Advisers. They are led by a Chief of Staff who oversees all department staff. The staff are non-partisan by nature, but are selected by the Secretary, on advice and consent of the Cortes Federales.
