The Aldurian Defense Consortium is a joint public-private research grouping of Nouvelle Alexandrie, formed to pool research on weapon systems too complex or costly for any single member to develop alone. Its members are the state-owned Armaments of Alduria and National Research and Development Corporation together with the private firms Javelin Industries and Kerularios & Company. It is one of the principal joint bodies in New Alexandrian defense research and development.
The consortium's best-known product is the Silver Hammer, a mobile counter-rocket, artillery, and short-range air-defense system developed jointly by the four partners.
Formation
The consortium was created during the Republic of Alduria's drive to build a domestic defense industry, at a time when the government of Presidents Alejandro Campos and later Gerhardt Eugen Seydlitz was offering generous incentives for defense research and development. Rather than duplicate expensive laboratories and test facilities across several firms, the government and the participating companies agreed to pool their research on the most complex weapon systems. The arrangement paired the state-owned Armaments of Alduria and National Research and Development Corporation with private engineering capacity from Javelin Industries and Kerularios & Company, each contributing the specialty at which it was strongest. The consortium was carried forward into the defense-industrial base of Nouvelle Alexandrie after the federation of Alduria and the Wechua Nation in 1685 AN.
Members and organization
The consortium is not a single company but a standing partnership through which its members share the cost and direction of designated research programs. Each member retains its own corporate identity and its wider business:
- Armaments of Alduria, the state-owned armaments and munitions firm, responsible in consortium programs for sensor and radar work.
- National Research and Development Corporation, the state research body, which coordinates systems integration.
- Javelin Industries, the largest private contractor, supplying missiles and aerospace engineering.
- Kerularios & Company, a private industrial and technology firm contributing engineering and program capacity, which led the 1679 AN talks on co-producing the Silver Hammer with Ransenar.
Silver Hammer
The consortium's flagship program is the Silver Hammer, designed to intercept short-range rockets and artillery shells. Work on the system reflects the consortium's division of labor: Armaments of Alduria builds the detection and tracking radar with the Aldurian Armed Forces; the National Research and Development Corporation provides the battle-management and weapon-control center, built for it by the Caputian-Aldurian artificial-intelligence subcontractor Phillips-Riehl Company; and Javelin Industries builds the Geneva 1 interceptor. First declared operational in 1675 AN along the Nouradin river during the West Baatharzi War, the Silver Hammer has since been adopted by several Raspur Pact forces, including Constancia, the Florian Republic, and Ransenar, and forms one tier of a larger New Alexandrian missile-defense architecture.
