Electoral map

The 1703 Nordisketing election occurred on 8.XV.1703 and was the first election to the Nordisketing since 1685. The Einhorn Society government, led by Prime Minister Arnold Christianssønn Einhorn, found itself comfortably confirmed in the election, winning 37 seats (69% of the seats) and 53% of the popular vote.

The elections were regarded as mostly free, with unproven allegations of electoral manipulation in the former Storish bailiwicks of Slevik, Galvø, and Storesund.

For the purposes of these elections, the country was divided into 54 single-member constituencies, with a population of approximately 200,000 people (electorate size on average about 70% of the population). The method was first past the post.

The Einhorn Society and the Tuktuvut ConfederationReinherder Association agreed to an electoral pact, whereby they would not field candidates against each other.

The next election occurred in 1707.

Government formation

Following the election, the elected representatives were obliged to wait upon the King, and attend the feast of the second day of his investiture. There the King acknowledged them, congratulated them on their success and bade them take their seats at a table on a raised dais second only to his own.

The doors of the Nordisketing were barred and held by the Nordhær until the conclusion of the eight days of festivities whereafter the parliament assembled on the following day, with the King presiding as ceremonial lawgiver, and oversaw the election of a new speaker. Ola Valtatsjakk (TK-RF) was elected speaker with unanimous support.

Thereafter, the King nominated Arnold Christianssønn Einhorn to Prime Minister of Normark. He was confirmed with 41 votes in favour (EHS; TK-RF), and 13 abstentions (EP; NRP). The Elianist Party and the Norse Reform Party stated that they would be constructive opposition parties, but that in this vote, it would not be constructive to vote against the nomination, as there was no other conceivable option for a prime minister outside the EHS–TK-RF coalition.

Thereafter, Arnold Christianssønn Einhorn was sworn in as Prime Minister, the oath being administered by the King, and confirmed by the King, who signed the decree of office.
