Enlightened absolutism

Enlightened absolutism (also known as benevolent despotism or enlightened despotism) is a form of absolute monarchy in which rulers are influenced by the Enlightenment. Enlightened despots embrace the principles of the Enlightenment, especially its emphasis upon rationality, and apply them to their territories. They tend to nourish tolerance and liberty. Most foster the arts, sciences, and education.
